What is Firewise?
A Firewise community is a community that has taken steps to reduce the risk of structural damage from wildfires. The Firewise USA Program recognizes communities that have organized and implemented risk mitigation strategies in their neighborhoods. These strategies include:
· Landscaping: Using fire-resistant plants
· Building materials: Using fireproof materials
· Ignition zones: Building out ignition zones around homes
The Firewise USA program is co-sponsored by the USDA Forest Service, the US Department of the Interior, and the National Association of State Foresters.
